Earlier today I addressed the Daily Prompt, Come Fly with Me: Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home. A few years ago I traveled to Scotland. I felt the call to run the rolling hills I read about when I stood by the stone marking the border between England and Scotland. The land brought to mind the many romances set there, and Scots heroes such as Jamie Frasier of my favorite Scottish romance, the Outlander saga by Diana Gabaldon; currently playing on the Starz network.

Hurled back in time, Claire Randall is an “outlander” in the Highlands of 1743, facing a Scotland of wars and border clans. She meets her destiny in Jamie Frasier, a gallant Scots warrior who showers her with a love like none other. Claire is torn between their vast love or loyalty to her present, or rather future, relationship. The succeeding books only build on this.

If you do not like time travel romances set in Scotland, but want another such romance, you might try other bestsellers that I can personally attest to. One is The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and an oldy but goody, Time and Again by Jack Finney. The latter is heavier on the time travel element. Goodreads at http://www.goodreads.com has synopsis of both titles.

Take a look at the above videos for the theme song as well as a trailer for Outlander.
