The last installment of What Shall I Read Next? emphasized the bond formed in the military among teammates when determining the read-alikes chosen. After the holidays, with all the togetherness, why don’t we focus on Contemporary family sagas with the same strong bond, but among family members. Some of the generational novels or series’ begin in an earlier time period.
If you read Barbara Freethy’s Callaway series, a connected family series of eight siblings in this blended Irish-American family, you might enjoy another family saga, this time generational: Janet Dailey’s Caulder series.
Other generational family sagas include Belva Plain’s novel, Heartwood. Her last novel returns to the themes of her first, Evergreen; family, friendship, love, marriage, challenges, and happiness.
If you like sweeping family sagas like Belva Plain’s Evergreen, you might like like Colleen McCullough’s The Thorn Birds and Rosamund Pilcher’s The Shell Seekers. Pilcher’s family saga spans generations and often continents.
Nancy Thayer’s generational novel, Family Secrets cover three generations of women linked by secrets. Barbara Taylor-Bradford’s Emma Harte Saga (multiple books) follows her story and that of following generations.
Finally, Susan Isaacs’ Almost Paradise, can be added to this selection as another multi-generational family saga. There are many such novels or series of novels, but this gives you a starting point.
The Romantic Pen 
I know this is the wrong genre but Jeffrey Archer has written a great family saga called The Clifton Chronicles. I think a romance reader could enjoy this series!
