Remember Barbara Cartland? Her trademark pink, heavy makeup, many times photographed with pearls and  dog? Dame Barbara’s Gentle novels always featured pure romance,

with dark, handsome, dashing heroes, beautiful heroines, and the perennial happy ending.  Looking at the photos, she seemed to have lived as her characters did, wealthy, if not aristocratic.

Authors such as Joan Aiken Hodge, Eugenia Price, and Marion Chesney write Gentle Arthurian, Edwardian, Regency, and other Historical Romance. Dorothy Garlock is similar to Linda Lael Miller in that they both write Gentle western romances, though the latter is more Contemporary. LaVyrle Spencer also authors more contemporary Gentle romances; the ones I read were set in the West.

If interested in Contemporary Gentle Romances, Danielle Steel, Elizabeth Goudge, Maeve Binchy, Meg Cabot, Debbie Macomber, Betty Neels, and Diana Palmer might be of interest.

Happy Reading!
